Asparagus comes with several calories and various health benefits.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Nutrient Database, one 134 gram (g) cup of raw asparagus contains approximately:

  • Calorie – 27
  • Fat – 0.16 grams
  • Carbohydrate – 5.2 grams
  • Sugar – 1.88 grams

What about vitamins and minerals? Asparagus comes with a healthy dose of vitamins A, C, E, K and B6, as well as folate, iron, copper and calcium.

Asparagus also contains high levels of amino acid asparagine. Asparagin is a natural diuretic that helps remove excess fluid and salt from your body and ultimately helps prevent excessive bloating (and perhaps helps keep your urinary tract beautiful and happy).

Roasting asparagus couldn’t be easier. All you need to get started is an edged baking tray and parchment paper.

Step 1. Preheat the oven and prepare asparagus
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees. Prepare a wide-mouthed baking tray with parchment paper. Wash asparagus spears and trim hard woody tips with a sharp knife or simply remove it.

Step 2. Prepare asparagus for cooking
Transfer it to the prepared baking tray and arrange it in a single layer. Add some extra virgin olive oil and rub it carefully. Sprinkle asparagus chopped garlic, salt and pepper (and red pepper, if used) and spread on each spear to spread the garlic evenly among all asparagus.

You can use some garlic powder instead of fresh garlic.

Step 3. Frying
Transfer your baking tray to the oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes. The total time will vary depending on the thickness of your individual asparagus spears. It should be easy to drill with a fork, but not too soft. Some light browning is good for flavor.

Step 4. Decorate and serve
Take it out of the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley and lemon juice if desired.

Enjoy it!

Roasted Asparagus Varieties

Asparagus recipes are kept simple. But it doesn’t mean simple boring! Here are a few of my favorite ways to revive this simple green vegetable.

Take the cheese. Yeah, cheese. As a small piece of grated parmesan cheese covers the mozzarella cheese, asparagus actually gets along with many cheese types.
Butter. Because butter goes well with everything.
Herbs. Fresh herbs or dried herbs will produce a completely different flavor.
Nuts or seeds – I especially like sweet almonds with stripes.
